ActiveSync 4.5 wont sync two PCs Calendars, Contacts & Tasks. Only ONE set allowed ?!?!

I just got a new PDA (ASUS A626 - WinMobile 6 Classic) which requires MSActiveSync 4.5.  I was able to Sync with my work PC without a problem.  When I brought it home and set up the Sync AS 4.5 informed me that I COULDN'T Sync Contacts, Calendar & Tasks as <WorkPC> was already set up to do that and if I DID want to change I could.  THE PROBLEM is that in order to change to the new config (NOT simply ADD) AS 4.5 would first need to DELETE that data from my PDA.
Both PCs are WinXP Pro SP2 running ActiveSync 4.5.
Rather than Impact either my Home or Work Exchange environments (Yes, I run an Exchange server at home) I have ALWAYS Sync'ed two PCs instead of One Exchange Environ and one PC environ.

In having upgraded my device and ActiveSync am I no longer going to be able to COMBINE and maintain both sets of information ?!?!?  WHY ON EARTH WOULD NEW SOFTWARE TAKE A STEP BACKWARDS ?!?!

Backwards??? its always been like that. You can only sync one set.

See http://www.cewindows.net/faqs/multiplepartnerships.htm for an
explanation of the mathematical problems you may experience with multiple
partnerships more than two. Further I also included links to solutions
that allow you to sync with more than two PCs.

Thanks for the links Mikal613.

Actually, as I might not have stated it clearly enough, I can ONLY SYNC CAL-N-SUCH WITH ONE PC (Work).  When I bring it home and try to create a connection ActiveSync 4.5 says (summary):

"You are already sync-ing with a PC, please choose something else to do instead...."

FYI, now that I am at work I have deleted the previous Partnership and it wont connect at ALL.....

Linux anyone?

The upside is I can still return this garbage to Dell and get my money back.

Yes, you can only have one parternship

"and it wont connect at ALL"

a) end the Activesync task from running programs

or

b) soft reset

If that doesnt work then Soft reset and restart your comp and then try again.

Well, I've even gone so far as to uninstall and reinstall AS 4.5.  It's finally reloaded and I've managed to Sync all of my Work-data onto the device.  I do not know WHY [we] lose the ability to sync with two PCs like I had when I was using a Win2003 SE Mobile PDA with AS v4.2 but I think that's a reeeeally poor way for Microsoft to conquer the Smart-device market (e.g. - by compromising the PDA market).

Typical.

Mikal, when you say "..Yes, you can only have one parternship." where'd you get that info?

Yeah, but that only relates to the Inbox.  I have never even tried to sync either of those.  Cal, Contacts & appointments are all I wanted on BOTH PCs.

wouldnt that create a problem of which contacts are from where..

...no, as they get merged into one big Contact DB.  At least that's the way Win2003 Molie SE worked. Now, I need to pay $50 to do the same thing?

...sigh...they call this progress.

Mikal,

Sorry to have left this for so long.  I am posting a link which explained the whole synch process pretty well from the Partnership standpoint (versus the Inbox you offered above) only in an effort to provide a more complete Solution for the site and future visitors.

You get 100% of the point value as:
 1) You pointed me in the right direction
 2) You offered, albeit not FREE, multi-sync product options.
 3) Took the time to find pages I was too busy to for myself (valuable in , and of, itself).

My next post will include the link and I will award the points.

Thanks Again.

Explains how patnerships work and where the PC Reg Key is for Partnerships.

Mikal, if you get a chance, would you cut & paste this, and the two links you offered into one post along with the "Yes, you can only have one parternship" comment.  It will be that one I award the points to.

If I haven't seen anything by the end of the day, I'll award your last post the points.
