Upgrading your Micosoft Money File

Recently had a new computer - Transfered all my Data & reloaded Programs. When trying to open my Microsoft Money files it takes me through a process of upgrading the file so i can use it in the version of Money i'm running. But keeps failing when i click to update file. Gives Error Message: 'Money cannot locate file: (location) or Cannot open possibly because it is read only or do not have permission to change it or disk drive is write protected.

My user account is set to administrator, i have checked the location that it specifies and the file is there. Its also not set to 'read only'. I've also made a copy of file & saved to a different location on HDD to ensure no permissions effecting it.

After the error message it gives me the option to restore file from Backup. I have tried this but again displays same error message.

Since you have transferred data from another PC, the SIDs will be different for the new PC. You will need to check the permissions (security tab) of the file and ensure that your Administrator account has full control.

See the following KB regarding how to view/change NTFS permissions: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308419

I hope this helps,

Thank you for your suggestion - Followed instructions to change permissions however i still experienced the problem.

Managed to fix it by switching off Money Express, which runs continuously in the background - I think the two were fighting for use of the same file somehow.

I will give you the point as you were they only expert to reply!

Thanks again!
