moving from Exchange 03 to Exchange 07

I have one Exchange server 2003 with two domains (domain1.com and domain2.com).  I need to move domain1.com to a 2007 exchange server, leaving domain2.com on the old 2003 exchange.  I do not need to upgrade the old 2003 exchange server, I need to leave it alone but pull the domain1.com to a new 2007 exchange.
1. Do I need to add the new 2007 exchange into the existing 2003 exchange.
2. Can I do a compete standalone install of exchange 2007 and then import the mailboxes from domain1.com into this new exchange 2007, leaving the old 2003 exchange to manage the domain2.com mailboxes.

You can only do a standalone installation of Exchange 2007 if you have a seperate forest for it. If you do not, then you will have to put Exchange 2007 in to your current Exchange 2003 org.
