window.open shows url in title bar if location=no

We are using window.open to open new browser window.  We don't want the new window to display the full URL so we set the parameter location=no.  However, this causes the URL to prepend the destination pages title in the IE title bar with the URL.  Example:

window.open('http://foo.com', 'WindowName', 'left=20,top=20,width=800,height=640,status=no,toolbar=no,menubar=no,location=no,resizable=yes,scrollbars=yes');void(0);

The title bar in the opened window then shows "http://foo.com - Window Title"

The URL gets prepended to the HTML page's Title.  Is there a way to keep the URL from showing?

The browser is IE7.

InvoiceInsight,

Not with window.open.  You would have to use a frame, iframe, etc to hide the URL.  Javascript only provides limited options/settings for "popup windows" and modifying or setting the title is not one of them.

By the way, that practice is usually appreciated by web users so they know the page they are viewing.  I can understand cases where you would want that hidden but it would be abused too.

Let me know if you have any questions or need more information.

I'm glad I could help.  I noticed the B grade though.  Did you still have a question or need help with this?  If so let me know and I will be happy to provide what I can.  It is nice to have a chance to earn the A or at least know why it wasn't.  It seems to be an odd grade in this case.

Thanks for the fun question.

Piotrek,
Welcome to EE!  This site has much more to offer than just this one solution and you can even ask your own questions.  In this case the accepted comment is actually an answer.  There are sometimes where "there is no solution" is the answer and knowing that can let you move on or have confirmation of this.  The experts here can usually help members find a way to do something but that isn't the case in 100% of the questions.  I still hope you find the info here helpful and maybe find other benefit to your EE membership.
