DHCP across vlan

I have a cisco 6509 as the core switch, I am trying to change DHCP from one server on vlan 10 to another server on vlan 10. I copied the scopes on the second server, turned DHCP off on the current server and authorized the second server to make it the main DHCP server. When I do this, only devices on the same vlan get an address. Other vlans don't seem to be receiving a DHCP broadcast for some reason. Both ports on the switch are configured alike. Any ideas?

have you put the second dhcp server into the same port as the old server?  you need to set up a DHCP relay agent

no, the other servr is still running and serving other functions. Where do you setup the relay agent?

Thanks

On the 6509, you most likely have an "ip helper-address" command on the VLAN intefaces that points to the IP address of the old DHCP server. You'll need to change this command to point to the new DHCP server.

yep thats the command you want ip helper=address  set it up on the vlans to forward the broardcasts to the dhcp address

for example

interface vlan3
ip helper-address 10.1.0.x  <---specify the DHCP server address.

Awesome, found the statement with the IP helper. I looked all over for something pointing me to that server. Nice job... I'll test it tonight and I'll let you know.

Thank you very much
