Hi I have an asterisk PBX up and running and would like to use my 3745 with VWIC 1MFT-T1 card as a PSTN gateway.  Can anyone provide a link to step-by-step instructions?

May I ask why you wish to do this rather than purchase a T1 card for asterisk?

Is it because the 3745 already uses part of the T1 or just to reduce cost as you already have the card?

It is normally better to have a T1 card fitted to asterisk itself. This is because the E1 interface can give the PRI cause codes directly to asterisk so you let lots of additional information about the call such as whether the number dialed was invalid, disconnected etc... If you use the 3745 and get asterisk to connect to it via SIP you only get the normal congested, or busy information back which is not as usefull.

Your right , I already have all that other hardware.   Were using an aging CCM/CU system, and it's too expensive to add phones.  I thought the Asterisk system would be a great alternative as it fits well with all of our other open source software.

Sorry I cannot help with the configuration of the Cisco hardware however I would still recommend that you fit a dedicated T1 interface in the asterisk box. They are not too expensive (http://www.digium.com/en/wheretobuy/digiumdirect/productview.php?product_code=TE120P for a single port model).

When you come to get desk phones the Grandstream GXP-2000 is a very good phone for the money. Its only downside is a poor speakerphone. The Aastra 480i is quite a bit more expensive but has an excelent speakerphone.
