unable to share a printer

I am trying to share a printer and the settings are not saving. This is a 3 person office and when I right click to share the printer it looks like it's going to work but it never saves the the sharing hand never appears. When I return to the sharing properites it looks like i never applied the settings.
Print spooler is running. XP sp2. all windows upates. Brand new IBM m52 . printer is Brother... but i have tied others wtih the same result.
Any help would be appreciated !
