i thank you both for you responses. may i ask a question with regards to your suggested solutions. with this requirement from my client i would need to make certain that the volume of traffic is EVENLY distributed to the among these other websites.

is there a gauruntee that this would happen with your solutions?
No, you cannot guarantee perfectly even distribution of traffic with round-robin DNS, but you can with an accelerator.
svs is correct, you cannot guarantee 100% uniform distribution DNS round robin. However the difference between hosts would not be huge and would decrease as traffic increases.

Reverse proxy load balancers, as suggested by svs, are definitely a more advanced and flexible solution allowing you more configuration freedom to achieve what you want. DNS round robin is more of a quick and simple solution, however it works suprisingly well for certain scenarios. Two major advantages of round robin is that it does not require any additional hardware or software and it does not create a single point of failurte.
