Slave hard drive cant acess files to restore

a friends computer crashed so i am trying to slave the data off of the hard drive. Everything is hooked up and i can view the drive. When i try and acess or copy the guys my documents. It wont let me. Any way around this or help on how to get to the files?

    There might be a chance that the files on the HD are corrupted but if they are not you can  try to have both of the Hard Drives hooked up or you can have just the one that you are trying to move the files from and a external drive and then create a bootable barts cd. Download the application, install and then create a bootable CD   with this CD you should be able to explore the drive that you are trying to copy files from and move it to a different drive
