How to DTS a .DAT extension file in the database?

I have SQL Server 2000 datbase. I want to DTS a .DAT extension.
How can I do that?
I cannot load it as text file if I try to the format looks crazy.
Can some tell me how to DTS a  .DAT extension file in the database?

Where is the .DAT file coming from?

A client provided us that file. I need to DTS it into the database.

Any idea?

You need to find out from the client what they exported the data from.  There are literally dozens of pieces of software that export data, each in their own formats for a .DAT file.

If you are able, I would have them send you the export in a very common format like CSV or XLS.

Are you sure it's not a database backup?
Sometimes sql backups are saved using the .DAT extension.

Beyond that, you really need to find out what the format is, and as cmangus says, try asking them for csv instead.
