Using Adobe acrobat reader 8.0, when I try to open pdf attachments from Outlook I get  the following error:
There was an error while loading the plug-in 'CDSearch.api'.  The plug-in failed to initialize.

If I hit OK it then opens up.

I uninstalled, and then reinstalled and it is still doing it.

First update to 8.1. If this does not solve it rename CDsearch.api in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 8.0\Reader\plug_ins into CDsearch.old and restart Reader.

    hope this helps

Have you updated? There is now 8.1.1 out =>

If you cannot locate this the plug-in folder do a registry search and try and delete it from the relevant key.

If none of this works then you will have to uninstall the Reader via Add/Remove Sw and manually remove any old remnants that may lurk about, like Reader 6 or 7.

    For 6/7:
