I am looking to create a private P2P network - sort of a Napster for a group of people who want to share files. Can anyone recommend any product based on successful experience with it?

    Hi lineonecorp,

If you just want to share files, try FolderShare ( It's very easy to use, no matter what your GQ (Geek Quotient) is. If you fancy something with more features like chat, instant messaging, encryption, etc then go for WASTE (

Note that  FolderShare stores your shared files on their own servers, which will be accessible to the people you nominate. Whereas WASTE is a completely decentralized system and hence truly private. If you have a big group with many files to share, WASTE is more suitable for your purpose.

Hope this helps. Do let me know which one you tried.

I checked the site out. It seems to be information for existing P2P sites. I am familiar with all of them. As per my original note I want to build my own private P2P for a specific group of people so they can share their files with each other across the Internet.

I found a package called BigSpeed and that seemed to do the trick.
