I am trying to debug some issues I am having with applications on SUSE Linus 10.2.  The programs are supposed to send messages to syslog

I have started syslog-ng but i do not know how to view the information.  How do you view the messages in the syslog?  Is there any specific configuration which needs to be done first?   The applications are running the same box
