sony Vaio VGN-AR520E laptop has no sound after vista upgrade

i have a brand new sony vaio VGN-AR520E with windows vista home basic, i upgraded to vista ultimate and now my sound is missing i tryied downloading the latest drivers (sound) to no avail, im frustrated what can be wrong?

also i forgat to add headphones dont work either

If you have no SOUND, it doesn't matter what you plug into to it Speakers, headphones...netiher is going to work.....Start off by checking your Bios revision. Ensure its up to date. Then maybe to verify your drivers to the one you just installed via the Sony website here:
http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=VGNAR520E
and ensure its the same. If its the same and still doesnt work, try uninstalling that driver and going to Windows update page and see if you can download the Microsoft cert. driver from the Windows update page. Reboot after it installs.... Do you have sound? Let me know.........

When @ the Windows update page you should see it on the left pane in  the "Hardware updates" section. I forgot to mention that in my previous post if you arenb't sure where to look.....

Additional, check in Device Manager see if sound card detected there and has any error? make sure the device is enabled in bios.

thanks it wasnt the bios but the windows driver worked thanks warlock your a lifesaver
