Outbox of Outlook Express won't empty itself.

Using Outlook Express on Windows XP box.  User have MANY folders (80 to 100) for all kinds of stuff.  New emails get stuck in Outbox and send repeatedly until she manually removes it from the Outbox.

Hello JayMulkey,

Recreate the Outbox folder.  With Outlook Express (OE) close, do a search for Outbox.dbx file and delete it. When OE opens, the Outbox folder and file will be recreated.

The file is located in C:\Documents and Settings\<account name>\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\<hexadecimal number>\Microsoft\Outlook Express folder. It is a hidden folder, so you have to unhide hidden folders and files to see it. Go to any folder and select Tools > Folders Options > View. Check "Show hidden files and folders". Click OK.

Hope this helps!

ASKER

Greetings War1,

Having been down this road before, I already tried that (instead of deleting Outbox.dbx I renamed it Old-Outbox.dbx   That's ok too, right?).

Started up OE again and new Outbox showed up.  New email test stays in new Outbox (like before) and re-sends with every Send/Receive.

Next suggestion, please.

War1,

1.  registered the library file.  Did that earlier today.
2.  Antivirus is same as runs every day on every machine on our network (eTrust by CA).
3.  Moved the timeout all the way up to 5 min.
4.  In account settings, the box "outgoing server requires authentication" was checked.
5.  ISP is not blocking port 25.  All email on the network (Outlook Express, Outlook and others) are using 25.
6.  Since this is the only thing I've not done, I'll try this.
7.  We handle email in-house (have our own server).
