Joining a new replacement disk to a RAID 1 array
We have a W2k3 server with a hardware RAID1 setup using 2x80GB SATA disks and an Adaptec SATA HostRAID (aarich) CERC SATA 1.5/2s controller. One of the disks failed so we ordered a new disk (80GB as well) and replace it with the failed one. The RAID is now reporting as "Degraded" and there doesn't seem to be an options with the Adaptec Storage Manager software join the new disk to the array.
Can someone please help.

As the server is booting and scanning the adaptec card you will see a message about pressing crtl-a to enter the controller configuration. Do it and you should be able to add the drive back in to the array via the controller firmware.
You need to give sometime to rebuild.
Please see document:

it should rebuild on its own. it could take sometime before showing it is good.

Ok, here is the solution:
1) On the BIOS boot screen press CTRL-A to enter the controllers utility software
2) Add the new drive a hot-spare
3) Go to the "Manage Arrays" section and select the array.
4) Press CTRL-R to start the array rebuild process.
5) Wait for the array to rebuild.
Why that can't just be listed in the manual (linked to from here by Punky) I have no idea.
