Can't open photoshop file

I have a Photoshop .psd file that's over 2MB in size. In CS2, when I try opening the file, I get the following error:

Could not complete your request because an unexpected end-of-file was encountered.

I did some research and downloaded and installed the following 9.0.1 patch, but I still have the same problem. Please help. Thanks.

In order to open files larger than 2GB they must be saved (then loaded) in the PSB format, instead of "old" PSD.
This format is available only in CS and later versions.
Previous versions aren't able to open such file format.

Jose,
The file is only 2.5MB, not GB.
Oooops! I was confused by that patch, which is supposed to fix a problem with files larger than 2GB, among other fixings.

Was your file created by you with the same CS version, in the same machine? As per only your description, seems the file is corrupted, but I imagine you had checked, for example, opening it in other CS installation, or other application able to open PSD.

If it is a downloaded file, check for its correctness.

Unfortunately the symptom is of a bad file.

Jose
This file was a downloaded source file, which I've used and edited over the course of the past few weeks. I did try to open it on another machine, and the same thing happened. Any other suggestions? I really don't want to lose all of the work I've done, and unfortunately, my last backup was a few weeks ago! Thanks.
Any other suggestions, guys? Thanks.
