How do I grey out fields in a form based on a checkbox in MS Access?

Hi there - I'm working on an Access database and need to grey out (disable) a group of fields in a form based on whether the user clicks a check box or not - this is to stop records being accidentally altered when a case is closed.  I can currently get fields to do this but when the form is closed and then reopened, the value is not saved, even though I have tried to save the value in another field.  Any ideas?
