XLT file gets changed into an XLS file by Internet Explorer 6

I have a *.xlt file on my website.

When users with Internet Explorer 6 click on a link to this file, or navigate directly to it, they are told that the file they are downloading has an *.xls extension.

In Firefox it works as you'd expect, you download an XLT file, you get an XLT file.

It's almost like Internet Explorer is trying to do something clever, but it just doesn't make sense.

I've tried different web servers (both Windows 2003 running IIS6) and also tried setting the MIME type to application/xlt but still the same thing happens.

Thanks in advance.
