Spoolsv.exe automatically stopping
I've been having a problem with my printer folder. The printer folder shows no printers
when there should be four listed. I try to start the spoolsv.exe service but it comes and goes. I've rebooted the computer several times as well as unplugged the attached printer (for several minutes)
and still the same problem. I can not print from this computer.
Any ideas ?

Did you load any 3rd party printing applications - like the ones that come with the driver cd? Sometimes, these will try to take over the spooler service.

No, I never do. Are you suggesting this may be a virus?
If so, do you knoww how i would find out?
Thank you.

No, but it's a possibility. This could be a resource issue, not enough memory, not enough paging file, low disk space.

Did that fix your problem? I noticed the B grade so I wasn't sure if you still had a question or needed some help with this. Let me know if you do and I'll be happy to provide whatever help I can. If that did answer your question then a B doesn't seem appropriate. It is nice to have a chance to earn the A or know why it wasn't.
Thanks for the fun question.

Your suggestion was not the correct fix for the problem I was having, but it led me to try something else.
In Administrative Tools, the print spool service was set to "manual" (why this happened? i don't know)so I switched it back to "automatic". Thanks again. Steve

Steve,
Thanks for the explanation. It makes sense and I'm glad I could help indirectly. :)
