Whether or not to install SQL 2000 on the database server to communicate with 2003 web server

I have two new Windows 2003 servers which are going to replace two win2k servers, one is used as a database server and the other is web. On the existing servers, on the web I have SQL 2000 installed. My problem is when switching everything to 2003. I understand that I can not install SQL on the web server, but from past problems with having the servers to communicate with one another was the primary reason that I installed SQL on the web.

So, my question in a nutshell is how can I work around this problem.

Oh in case it matters, my servers are member servers on an Enterprise network.

Thank you for your input, i am aware that I can install SQL 2000 on Win2003. My problem is that i have a web server which presently house the SQL 2000 server software; based on what i have read, Win2003 web version dosen't like SQL 2000, so I will need to install it on the database server. With that being said. i am asking for assistance on ensuring that when the SQL 2000 is installed on the database Win2003 server, the Win2003 web server will be able to communicate with it.
