We are going to upgrading our ERP which now will run off SQL 2005.  I am planning on buying a new server for the database.  The processor requirements for the ERP database are dual processors being minimum 2.8GHz Xeon 1MB L2 Cache.

Working with a hardware vendor, I have configurations for (all dual processors): 3GHz Dual-core or 2.6GHz Quad-core.  The dual-core option is slightly more that the quad-core.  (I could get a dual quad 3GHz direct from HP for more than either).

I don't want to short-change myself now and in the future.  Would the 2.6 quad-core option be acceptable?  What would you do?
