Cisco vs Toshiba phone system with VoIP

We have three offices across the State and are upgrading our phone system in one of them now. We are considering that in the future we could use the VoIP feature to save some money since we communicate with each office several times daily. The Toshiba system will handle VoIP but it works best if the phone system on each end is a Toshiba system. We have also looked at the Cisco System but it seems to be much more dependent on the use of servers to provide phone service and it's much more expensive. Does anybody have any words of wisdom on the correct path?
