Need APOP or STLS support for Outlook 2007 to receive mail from Qpopper pop3 server version 4.0.5

Need APOP or STLS support for Outlook 2007, PC, to receive mail from Qpopper pop3 server version 4.0.5

My company insists on using Qpopper pop3 server version 4.0.5 as the mail server.

I strongly desire to use Outlook 2007 and per the company's instruction have to set the incoming mail setting to use secure authentication.

When I select Outlook's Secure Password Authentication (SPA) selection I get the following response from the mail server:

-------------
Authorizing to server
[tx] AUTH
<rx> +OK Supported SASL mechanisms:
<rx> X-NONE-SO-USE-APOP-OR-STLS
<rx> .
Disconnecting from host
[tx] QUIT
-------------
I can send mail out fine with Outlook 07 just not receive.
I'm looking to see if there is any possibility to implement APOP or STLS to my Outlook 2007 mail client?
Im trying to make my Office 07 mail client work with our current mail server requirements.
Im not at all impressed with the Thunderbird client!

DelSolSea,

Most email server do not require secure password authentication (SPA) to work. In fact, if you turn it on, receiving will not work.

Per change, your company may be mistaken abut SPA, and may mean outgoing server authentication.  Turn off SPA and test if you can receive.

After detailed client side configuration testing prior to your above suggestions it is very clear the requirement and server side response.

First off no issues with sending mail, my company has a specific login user/pass requirement for sending mail and it is configured and working fine in Outlook 2007.
My company (extremely technically competent) is not mistaken in their requirements as they are strongly securing the mail server to reduce spam activities.

The issue is isolated with receiving mail via Outlook 2007.

Strong authentication methods for sending mail is required by per my companies QPopper mail server configuration requirement.
However when Office 2007 SPA Authentication is selected QPopper responds that it is not a supported auth method per the below dialog:
Authorizing to server
[tx] AUTH
<rx> +OK Supported SASL mechanisms:
<rx> X-NONE-SO-USE-APOP-OR-STLS
<rx> .
 Disconnecting from host
[tx] QUIT

If the SPA (the only auth method available in Outlook 2007) is deactivated the send/receive process keeps initiating the [Enter New Password popup screen] and even though the confirmed proper user name and password is provided and save password is checked it keeps posting the same pop up screen over and over and over and over until  such point the only option is to cancel the popup.

Here is the sever dialog exchange with NO Outlook SPA authentication for the incoming mail configuration:
Authorizing to server
2007.11.04 14:28:17 POP3 (mail.elin-projektwelt.at): [tx] AUTH
2007.11.04 14:28:18 POP3 (mail.elin-projektwelt.at): <rx> +OK Supported SASL mechanisms:
2007.11.04 14:28:18 POP3 (mail.elin-projektwelt.at): <rx> X-NONE-SO-USE-APOP-OR-STLS
2007.11.04 14:28:18 POP3 (mail.elin-projektwelt.at): <rx> .
2007.11.04 14:28:18 POP3 (mail.elin-projektwelt.at): [tx] USER john.doe
2007.11.04 14:28:18 POP3 (mail.elin-projektwelt.at): <rx> -ERR [AUTH] You must use stronger authentication such as AUTH or APOP to connect to this server
2007.11.04 14:28:18 POP3 (mail.elin-projektwelt.at): Retrying authorization

Of course the easy way to solve this is to have the mail server configured to drop down to no authentication when APOP is not used by the client but my company isnt willing to reduce there auth requirements.

The other solution that I have not found yet is to find an update for Qpopper 4.0.5 that supports Outlook SPA Authentication.
However if SPA Authentication sends pain text passwords across the line that would go against the point of requiring APOP now wouldnt it!

So instead of forcing the issue to get the company to back off on their security requirements let get Office 2007 for PC users compliant to APOP!!!

They allows Office 2007 MAC users to use APOP why not PC users????

This is really starting to grind my time away and its not so cool of MS to not allow APOP on the PC side!

I know there is a lot of creative programmers out there it cant be that hard to make a plug in for this request now can it?

Additionally free Thunderbird email client even uses APOP.
I'm just not satisfied with Thunderbird and strongly desire to use Outlook 2007 for PC.
