Remote Connection Options-Cannot use Logmein

Hello,
I've been successfully using Logmein (free version) to access my home office computer (WinXP Pro) from client sites. Recently I started working part time at a city senior center, with networked computers. The IT Department has blocked access to the Logmein website, so I cannot use it to access my home office computer from one of their networked computers. Are there other ways to access my home office computer? I have not tried downloading software to one of the networked computers, and do not know if that would be blocked as well. I need something that will allow me access without any response needed by my home computer, since I won't be there to accept the response!

Thanks much in advance.

If logmein is blocked, you will probably have a tough time, although you could check out the various free VNC ( tightVNC etc )

as well as commercial stuff like PC Anywhere.

I hope this helps !

I'll need to find out if I can download one of the VNC programs onto the computer I use at the senior center. I'll report back after I've been there again, at the end of this week (today is 11/5/07).

Thanks,

EJH
VNC may require you to configure your home router/firewall....
have you considered Windows RDP?  it is included with windows xp...

you can set you home computer up for listening, and then connect to it...
as with VNC, it may require you to configure your home router/firewall.

hi zephyr hex and sysexpert,

i am not that familiar with the vnc options, or rdp. i seem to recall that you need a static ip address for those to work--is that accurate? i don't have a static ip. how would i use either of those solutions without a static ip address?

thanks again,

ejh
Normally IP address on DHCP do not change very often.

It would be sufficient to do an IPconfig from a DOS BOX to se you IP daily, so that you could use it for RDP or VNC.

I hope this helps !
sysexpert,

yes, it does help. i actually know exactly what you are talking about!

i won't be able to test this out for another week, so i will report back sometime after november 16th.

thanks for your help so far.
