Cannot access GMail site
I use a TZ170e network protection device. When anyone on the network tries to access the gmail website an error message appears saying the connection to the server was reset. I also receive a notification saying an intrusion was prevented from a possible port scan attack. I tested my sanity by using an independent wireless internet connection on my machine and verified that the computer could connect to the gmail website so long as it is not through the TZ170. I have verified that the access error occurs in both IE and Firefox and have ensured there are access rules in the Content Filter to allow for access to mail.google.com & gmail.com. Sonicwall have tried changing the MTU packet size down to 1492 but that has not helped. If anyone else has any other suggestions of what I could try next it would be very much appreciated.

Kate.

Try to disable Gmail chat feature http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=34330. By default gmail web chat is enabled.

Did you mention that SonicWALL support tried adjusting the MTU instead of changing the IPS settings?
ASKER
Yeah, the Sonicwall technical support rep got me to change the MTU size first and then try to access gmail.com (which didn't make any difference). I have since changed the MTU size back to the original settings, made the changes as you suggested, and now it works.
That's disappointing... I would have thought they have better techs than that. It's been so long since I spoke to a level 1 tech that I have no idea what they're like anymore.. anyway, glad I could help...
