Site to Site VPN connection speed

We have a site to site vpn connection setup which works ok.
Site 1 has a static 3mb/768k dsl connection and site 2 has an intergrated T1 with a 384k up/dn connection.
I am trying to get the speed of the VPN faster and looking int bumping our bandwidth at site 2 to 1M.
site one does open files such as cad and word files and also runs a few database apps which are located at site 2. All of these run
but there is def a noticable slowness about it. I know this is commen for a vpn speed due to the overhead of the vpn but
will I see a noticale diff if we go to 1M? Are there any other tweeks i can try?
Site1 has a linksys and site 2 has PIX501 for firewall.

The linksys and Pix501 connect with ipsec.
