Taking the HD plunge soon and was at BestBuy getting info.
The salesman gave me a printed quote and listed the HDMI cable as a line item, when I asked him why the television didn't come with that cable, he said the tv manufacturer doesn't provide the cables because of the "certification" required for the tv's capabilities.
Basically, he said there are 3 versions of HDMI certified cable... v1.1, v1.2, & v1.3 (the latter need for 1080p).
Is this true? If so, how can Joe Consumer be certain the cable is REALLY certified? Does it really matter for a short (~6 feet) run? Since most cables are made over-seas... is this whole deal real, or a gimmick?
