I cannot telnet to internal exchange server from another server on the same subnet
I a trying to telnet to our exchange server, which is running as part of a sbs2003 setup.
when I type: telnet hostname 25 it wont connect. I can ping the server using its hostname no problem.
I think something is blocking it. I am no expert on exchange. Perhaps it isnt configured to allow connections on port 25 on the internal network connection.
Can anyone help.

I cant telnet using IP address either. When I telnet from the exchange server to the "localhost", I get a connection.
The SBS server is running ISA Server, but I thought that it only acted on the external facing network card

i might b wrong but it seems you have to bind smtp to the internal nic
what happens if you telnet to the external nic

It connects fine from outside. How do I bind smtp to the internal nic?

I take it from the lack of replies that this isnt the correct way to proceed with this issue

It was Mcaffe's "prevent mass mailer worm from sending mail" feature that was blocking it from the client end.
Took me ages to pin-point it, but now it works.
Thanks mate.
