Getting 2 Ethernet Adapters to Work Together in XP

With WinXP SP2, I have an ASUS P5B Deluxe motherboard with 2 Marvell Yukon ethernet adapters. One is setup up as "obtain IP automatically" and is hooked to a DLink DI-624 router and on to my ISP in the local building. Second adapter has a set IP address and is connected to an external custom hardware board with a cross-over cable. On this second connection, I am using TCP as a data transfer/control for the custom board. I'll refer to this adapter as the DSP adapter.

Each of these adapters works fine when they are the only one enabled. However, if they are both enabled, the internet connection through the router does not work.

Here are the resutls of ipconfig /all:

Watching the tray icons for these adapters when both are active, the following occurs:
When Iexplorer is run, the icon for the DSP connection blinks. Ocassionally, the Internet icon (adapter hooked to router) will activate until IExplorer finally says it cannot display the page. If I disconnect the DSP adapter, then I can get to the internet just fine.

Here are the results of Diagnose Connectivity from IExplorer while both adapters are active:

Question: How do I get these guys to play together? I need internet access for the development tools while operating the custom board connection? I must have some setup issues wrong.

Thanks!!
