I am connected to the network using my wired network card in my laptop.  I am running Vista Ultimate.  I also am not using the power cord.  My wired network card becomes disabled.  How can I keep this from happening?

Check the power management feature of the NIC in the device manager, and disable the section to allow Windows to turn off this device while not in use....

Also, depending on teh make of the laptop, there might be a vendor app controlling power management, or even hardware/network settings.....
