Im creating a photo editing application however I do not want my users to upload the images I'd rather them be able to load them locally.  I know that Adobe Air can do it, but I can not find a solution for Flex or Flash.  Please contribute any solutions that you may have.

Achieving this is not that simple because flex doesn't allow reading the File system directly. The only way to achieve this with out any server side support or uploading is to specify a particular folder in which the client must put the images and then then read the(pre-defined number) of images and display. I will try to help you with some code if possible.

shivas, that is for remote files i believe. im looking so that application users can load files locally into the flex from their computer without having to upload them.
