Best way to synchronize My Documents folder with server
Hello,
I am recently setting up SBS in a SOHO office with 10 users. Their natural demand was to setup My Documents folders for all users to have a backup copy on server, and now I am trying to find the most RELIABLE way to setup this folder sync with server.
My first guess was to make drive U:\, which is default user's folder setup within profile in AD, and make it available offline. Then I would put My Documents floder to drive U:\ and files would be synchronized.
But I have just had some bad experience myself few weeks ago.
In same setup I had folder named \Customers made offline, and one day folder simply dissapeared! It was gone on server, and gone in my notebook, too. Unfortunatelly, I was just doing defrag few days ago, so I could not search for files on my notebook. I did restore files from server using Undelete utility, but some files were lost.
I have just few guesses how and why did that happen, having in mind mostly my exercise with changing IP on my notebook, making it part of another subnet etc.
But since then I don't dare to make My Documents folder available offline for my customer, since I don't trust that mechanism anymore.
Any suggestions on best practise on how to establish fast-synchronizing and transparent to the user copy of My Documents folder?
