I want to implement a mail relay solution as an extra step to stop viruses and spam. I've seen Aladdin's Esafe solutions and was quite impressed by it. I'm looking for something much more simple that doesn't cost 600-2000$. A simple workstation running some software that checks/filters/forwards SMTP/POP3.

hmmm...

cheap smtp relay solution... stick an Exchange 2003 server in the dmz to relay between both internal and external stmp mail and then buy symantec mail security for Exchange....

I do like clearswifts MailSweeper.... best product I have used for Spam / AV cheap and easy to configure...

most solutions are always based on how many mailboxes you have

hope this helps
