Cognos8 error message

Hi

I have recently started using cognos8 and have some complexed reports scheduled to run at the begining of each month. the problem we are having is each month the schedules are failing due to the credentuals expiring, the error message is

CAM-AAA-0194 Authentication to the namespace 'ADS' failed. The provided credentials are invalid. Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password.

This is happening every month regardless of whether or not the users who own the schedules have changed there details or not.

I understand how to refresh the credentual in cognos but is there anyway of stopping them from expiring and having to refresh them so frequenly?

You should only get that error if the user's password was changed on the Active Directory side.  There's no workaround for that, unfortuantely, becuase Cognos doesn't store the user's password, it only stores a credential.  Once the password changes in the underlying authentication source, the credential becomes invalid.  It'd be nice if it updated the credential automatically when the user logged in, but that's never been implemented.

The easiest solution is to create a user in the ADS specifically for running schedules, and make that user the owner of all the schedules.  Configure that account so that the password never expires.

Are you able to explain to me how to create a user in the ADS? Also I have been advised that due to a Cognos bug, the report will be email from who ever creates the schedule, so won't your suggestion mean that all the reports will be sent from the user I create to be responsible for the schedules?

I am being thick I know how to add a user to ADS (bit early for me!!) I have accpted yours as the solution and appreciate your help.

If you could give me your opion on my second point though... with regard to reports being sent from who ever creates the schedule that would be great!

Yes, you're right...if the scheduled report is being setn as an email, then they'll be sent by that one owner.  There's no real way around that unless you start looking into SDK solutions (custom programming) to pull the reprot out of Cognos 8 and email it seperatly.
