Driver for 1680x1050 monitor with geforce 8800gt
I have a Gateway FPD2185W monitor with native resolution 1680x1050, Vista x64, geforce 8800 gt, and cannot find a driver for the 8800 GT (not GTX or whatever) that supports this resolution. Has nVidia really not provided a driver? If not, is there a way to create one?

169.02 does not support 1680x1050. I checked all modes and it is not there. This is a standard wide-screen resolution and Gateway has sold lots of FPD2186W monitors. Again: does nVidia really not support this resolution and if so is there a way to write a custom resolution? Note: nVidia has not implemented the Custom Resolution function in the Vista version of the Control Panel.

another thought: can I edit the monitor.inf file? I see that the monitor.inf file has entries for Gateway FPD1800. can I add the necessary entries for the FPD2185W? If so, what are the correct entries? A concern: there is no definition currently in the monitor.inf file for 1680 x 1050 resolution. Is this because nVidia does not support this resolution for the 8800 GT in Vista 64? Is this an insuperable problem? Because this is getting more complicated, I have raised the point value.
You can use powerstrip to create an new monitor.inf for 1680x1050.

Nov. 11 2007 post from Powerstrip administrator says Powerstrip does not support custom resolutions on geforce 8 cards. see http://forums.entechtaiwan.net/viewtopic.php?t=5940&highlight=geforce+8800
Open up the nvidia control panel and change it to advanced, under Display go to manage custom resolution and create a custom resolution of 1680x1050 for that monitor.
Nevermind, this feature isn't part of the vista driver yet.
