maybe you should try a firmware upgrade, or uninstall/reinstalling tape unit may be useful

I tried the hotfix for it and that didn't work and i know for sure we aren't exceeding the tape size; the tapes natively support 200gb (which means it will hold roughly 150) and we only have 25gb of data on the server.

Thanks for the quick response!!

  Hi heystek
I assume the capacity writes on tape is the compressed data capacity. But since your data is 25 GB, then there is no problem. Please check the following
*Clean your tape drive wih cleaning cartridge
*Try backing up a folder which is not in use by any user or application

Nope, I tried backing up a folder with just a couple documents in it and get the same message.

Apparently the drivers Quantum gives out do not work properly with NTbackup. We spent a few hours on the phone with Quantum (which the entire time the tech was searching for solutions on Google and he openly admitted it) and the last thing he recommended was to install a copy of Backup Exec we installed the copy and installed Symantec's tape drivers and it worked just fine after that.
Thanks for all your help MrHussy!!
