The number of beeps and the time between each beep will tell you the problem.  Although it is usually tracked down to things like bad memory, video card etc.  Something that would keep the computer from booting up if that part was bad.

When I turn the laptop on there is one long beep followed by two quick beeps.  Does that mean anything to you?  Thanks!
