Problems Syncing Archos 404 With Windows Media Player

I have an Archos 404.  I am trying to sync it using Windows Media Player 11 under Widows XP.  I am using Windows Media Device mode.  When I try to sync it, it tried to sync for a while, then the Archos will reboot itself.

I have sent the unit back to Archos and they could not reproduce the problem.  Earlier today I rebooted my PC, killed all unnecessary processes, and it synced OK.  But now that I removed a playlist from the sync list, the problem is happening again.

I want to avoid reformatting the hard drive, since I do have enough files on it for now, and don't want to risk losing them if I can't sync again.

Any suggestions?

This indeed sounds like either an firmware issue on the Archos or something on the Archos got corrupted.   Is there any way you can test it on another machien to rule out your Windows Media PLayer config as a potential problem?
