cannot connect wireless router to  webstar cable modem

i have recently moved, at my old house i had cable modem , d-link wireless router, connected to it were two desk tops and my laptop, since my move i have a different cable modem. my router will not connect my lap top to wireless connection, i also have only one laptop now, am i connecting it wrong!!!!

Try resetting the router to factory defaults (check it's manual on how that is done). Then try to connect to it first using an ethernet cable so you can set it up. After that check if you can connect wirelessely.. First don't use any security settings. Only add those once you have a connection.
