Moving Outlook 2007 data

I have installed a new hard disk / windows XP on a laptop computer.

Windows was running very slow and crashing on the old hard disk.
The new installation is running fine.

How ever I need to transfer the contact / email from outlook 2007.
I have the original hard disk in an external USB hard drive enclosure.

The question is how do I get the outlook info from the external hard disk into outlook ?

Hello Matthew_Way,

The emails and contacts are stored in PST file.  PST file is located in C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook folder.  It is a hidden file, so you have to unhide hidden files. Open Windows Explorer folder and select Tools > Folders Options > View. Check "Show hidden files and folders". Click OK.

You may need to take ownsership of folders and files to access them.

Copy the PST to new hard disk. Then you can either import the PST file or open the PST in a new personal folder.  Go to Outlook > File > Import and Export, or File > Open.

Hope this helps!

Had some trouble finding the PST files.

Had to boot the machine to a command prompt and then transfer the files that way.

Thanks for your advice.
