I am trying to install PB from a drive that has the PB10.5 CD

\asanywhere9
\autorun
\infomaker105
\pbvm
\powerbuilder105
\server

when i go to \powerbuilder105 and run setup.exe it tells me

"setup has detected that the installation was not launched by the sybase common installer. please use the common installtion to install the PB test"

does anyone know where this file is. I tried in the other folders but nothing worked.

The installer is at the root directory.

It should be the file named  autostart.exe

I could not find "autostart.exe" but I found "setup.exe" and it ran fine. Strage I thought I tried that before.

What it didi is that it installed the following:
1.  SQL anywhere 9
2.  Sybase infomaker
3. sybase PB 10.5 enterprise

I only got one message during the install "
Your machine does noe have Microsoft .NET Framework SDK 2.0 installed.  You must install MS .NET Framework SDK 2.0 to enable .NET web service engine"

How do i get that and do I need it if I do not want to use .NET now?

Another two small questions:
1. Do you know if a smart programmer can pick up PB in 2-3 weeks. It seems it is pretty easy and you need to get familairzed with the different painters and just need to learn Powerscript?

2.  Do you know if Sybase offers programmers for short term assignments like Oracle? or any other company.

You can download .Net framework from Microsoft website.

A smart programmer can pick up PB in 2-3 weeks. But they would only be intermediate programmers. If you really want programmers who will really maximize and leverage the powers of pb then it would take longer than 2-3 weeks.

thanks, I will check the microsoft website. But I assume I do not need it now if I only want to create/maintain PB client server applications. correct?

This company seems to be in phillipines. I will check but i did not see any office listing in US east coast.

I forgot to ask do you think there is a still a market for PB. It seems the market share died after Visual Basic and .NET came out. Do you agree?

Munzer,

Yes, the market share has dwindled. Although, the product itself is very active, recently launching PB 11 which almost has full .NET support and the plans to launch PB 12 for full .NET deployment.

With regards to your using PB it will definitly be a matter of preference. If you just plan to use it for client/server environment then PB would still be a good choice. And even if you plan to use it for web applications, PB would be an option if you have existing skill sets.

Finding programmers for PB, though, is a bit hard. But training them to use PB is not that hard.
