Missing Email - Exchange services stopped but SMTP service still running

Hi

My Exchange server had issues last week and I had stopped the Exchange services from running (all day).
The issue was fixed late in the day and when Exchange came back online the emails from our ISP did not come through.  I contacted them in case the issue was from their side but they were able to show me that my server was accepting emails all day long from them (SMTP logs from them clearly showed this).  I found that my SMTP service was still running so I can only assume that this was why my server was accepting email - but it obviously was not able to write these messages to the Exchange DB......my main question is that is it possible to recover these messages that were accepted while the Exchange services were not running?

On your Exchange Server, open System Manager, Expand Administrative Groups | First Administrative Group | Servers | "Server name" | Queues if your mail on your server you will see it in a queue.  If it is there, it will be delivered in time.
