Hotmail problem and symantec mail security for smtp

Hello as the system administrator of a university, i set up a new outbound mail server. i installed symantec mail security for smtp 5.01. OS is Red hat ES 4.
in my tests i can send e-mails to gmail, yahoo,etc.. but i cant send them to hotmail accounts. although the messages are queued by hotmail as well. what might be the problem?

Try sending an email to hotmail using telnet, this way you will be able to grab any error messages display.

It could just be their mail servers are rejecting connections for your ip / range.

i already did a telnet to hotmail server. i saw my message queued. but it hasnt arrived to me

but i can send messages via our other mail servers to the hotmail accounts. only problem is our server doesnt work with hotmail accounts, i cant figure it out.

If the message is queued, this means it has been accepted and is no longer controlled by your mail server. Obviously the message is never delivered to the user's mailbox, have you received any bounce back messages?

no i havent got a bounce back message :( not even a notification

Considering you are setting this up, and I assume it isn't in production as yet, are you able to remove Symantec Mail Security and test it again?

I would be interested to find out if it is a sendmail/postfix issue or possibly Symantec..

i uninstall it and even install it again to another machine with different ip address. but that doesnt work for hotmail.

so after you uninstalled it for the server you are having difficulties with and you have been working on, did you test sending an email to hotmail? was it received or not?

after installed to another server with different ip, it didnt work again. i couldnt send to hotmail. not arrived to mailbox. i ve just called symantec and they told me if i can see the delivery notice with the ip of hotmail mx, that means it is not the problem of symantec. so i am trying to contact to msn hotmail.
