Reseting Frs staging folder to an external drive

Can somebody please advice if it a good practice to reset a frs staging folder directory to a usb external hard drive?

I don't think this would be a good idea.  If that usb stick ever was removed, FRS would fail.  The staging folder is used to hold compressed incoming or outgoing files when they are replicated to the other member(s) of the replica set(s).
