No audio diagnostics on Dell notebook?

Audio has failed on a Dell Inspiron 9200 notebook. So ok l boot into diagnostics via F12 to test the audio.
But there is no audio diagnostic test there to run. It's missing. Has anyone seen this on this model or similar?

I've checked other Dell notebooks (different models) and their diagnostics do have an audio test.

It's out of warranty. The latest BIOS reports the unit has:
Audio Controller:  Sigmatel 9750
LVL 15

Hmmm. Anyways if the audio chip is the one that is malfunctioning you would see no better results using a diagnostic utility. As also the audio with external speaker fail, I would suggest you check the audio drivers within Windows once.

If you feel the issue is with BIOS, you have no other option other than sending it in for a service at Dell.

I am not a Dell 9200 user but I find a lot of others who were able to find Audio test in Dell Dignostic utility. Here is a instruction taken from Dell forums:

"Restart computer, and as soon as it starts to boot up hold down f12. Select 'diagnostic' from the boot menu. It will run some tests for a couple of minutes before the Diagnostic comes up. When it does select 'custom', then the audio test. This will test your audio system independently of windows and drivers"

If no audio test under Custom and if you are testing for audio from Internal speakers. Use the line-out port to connect to an external speaker to see if it helps.

Good luck
