Getting black screen when I try to log into Safe Mode

Hi.

I have a Windows 2000 Server on a Dell PowerEdge 1600SC.  It runs my firm's Citrix remote access.  Approximately 25 users.

I have lost access to Safe Mode.

I can successfully choose Safe Mode from F8 and can reach the login window.  I can login as the box's local Administrator.  However at that point I just get a black screen with just the mouse pointer showing.  I've waited up to 15 minutes with no change.  I can do a Ctrl-Alt-Del and get the Task Manager, but don't get anywhere beyond that.  I can Restart from Task Manager and reboot to normal mode.

I assume it's a problem with the display, but don't know how to fix it.

I need to get into Safe Mode to run a spyware removal tool.

Thanks in advance for any help.

once you get into Task Manager click File > New Task

That will get you to the Run menu.  from there you can try to type explorer to get the start menu, etc... or simply try to browse to run the spyware removal tool.
