Sending Email From Alias or Distribution Group

I am trying to send an email on Behalf of a group which has an associated Distribution List.  I can select the specified distribution list in the From field but the email fails to send.  Is there any way to make this happen or to somehow specifiy an alias in the from field or MUST the email be sent from an actual Mailbox?

Do you have groups within groups.If yes then you need to set permissions even to them.I had the same issue.
I have a group which has 3 groups within them.If i set the Send on behalf to the main group it does not go...But the same if i set to the main and all the 3 nested groups..All receive a mail...
If that does not help...Then what is the error you get...

Hi Bsharath, thank you for your response.
I am not the AD or Exchange Admin so it's tough for me to confirm some of this stuff.  I'm pretty sure we do have groups within groups.  So it sounds like what i need to do is contact my exchange admin and ask him to Enable the "Send on Behalf" feature for the target Distribution List?
