Wireless connection to modem

Background - For safety I put my modem in Stand-by when leaving my pc and then the pc also goes into Standby.  Upon returning, and I take the pc out of Standby, the icon in the notification bar will come on indicating "Signal Strength: Excellent" and "Status: Connected."

Question - can I reset so the wireless connection is looking for the modem vs. the wireless network?

Have read this a few times and am not sure what you mean "Question - can I reset so the wireless connection is looking for the modem vs. the wireless network?"

If you are referring to the wireless connection on the laptop and somehow making it look for the internet connection, then I would say no.  Depending on your wireless AP/router, you can schedule times which certain PC's can access the internet.  For example, This would be good if you left for work every day at 8 am and came back at 5.  A set schedule.
