Web Design - FileMaker - Templates

I just got FileMaker Pro and am kind of confused, I know there are premade ones and I am trying to look for one that is close to freelance web design, so some fields like:

client name
address
phone, etc.

site name
site address
ftp info
godaddy login/password

Are there any premade ones that are close to that? I like how the templates have nice graphics compared to creating a new one from scratch.

Thanks,
Ryan

Ill go check that out..so that would be the closest one?
I cant seem to find it on there site.
Thank you, i opened and it from here, do I edit it accordingly? Set up my fields?
yes, its free ad unlocked, so you can change whatever you like
Is it possible to have it synced up with others? Say my buddy and I how we do freelance?

And to edit stuff, copy/paste fields, then what do I do about field names in the table do they automatically edit?
to sync up with other users, you need to share the same file, one of you 2 acting as a server, or you should use a real fm server.
fields names can be altered, using the design mode. their names will update in layouts if they have not been altered already; if the name has been changed in the layout separately, it no longer sticks to the field name; that of course requires some learning from you, you enter the world of databases somehow, these templates are provided as a quick start, not as a real app which can set  to your reqs in 5mn like an accounting app (which probaly takes more)
Alrighty..thank you! I will look at some docs on FM servers.

I am a bit familar with SQL/Databaes, field types etc. So design mode like you said i can copy paste text fields/text accordingly and like you said it DOESNT stick to the field name in the TABLE correct? So you have to change that?

Ryan
no, it keeps the original name. actually, the real name is hidden, it works internally with field IDs, the name is a kind of attribute
I am kind of confused still sorry.

Say I open a template one and copy the field in design mode so I copy "Name" and paste it and name it to "GoDaddy Login"

Does that change the field name in the table for me? Or do I have to change it?
oh no, it just moves the field and change the name on screen, the table remains untouched
so, yes you must change it in file/define, etc...
Thanks...what do you think of Bento? The new one they came out with in preview/beta right now.
nothing, I am on a PC! so I can't try.
To me a product that is mac only is a no go. Only some niches can live with macs only. Even for filemaker, the PC users are 85% of their market; Viewed from far, this is a database product for people unable to do databases, ie a database which integers all current needs wihtout writing a line. what happens if you need to modify it? need to learn anyway I guess. Looks like a marketing action. They'd better integrate these new features as plug-ins or new native features for a filemaker 9.5. Filemaker is selling more and more the database with the app to make it, probably a trick to mask the reality, they have problems to convince real developpers, so they aim advanced users. Isn't it the wind nowadays?!
Alrighty..thanks. If I want to do remote could I setup a SQL database on my hosting account then login and give my info to my friend for we can keep it synced.

And is this the FM server?

http://www.filemaker.com/products/fms/

Do you install it locally? Or remotely? Or does the computer its installed on act like a server.
fm able to connect to a remote SQL? very few providers open the sql port which is needed for odbc access....
fm server: yes, 2 versions
to be installed on a server or a basic computer, can be remote if you can open port 5003 to allow fm native communication on public lines, basically the same problem as using a remote sql database for an odbc driver
Alrighty..thank you. To try it..how would I export my database file then to import it to my database remotely?

And in the file sharing for FM do I give the other user my IP? And how do they access it?
why do you mean by export, share it? or export?
yes, you provide yr IP address, and they use file / open remote, add a host address, and it will scan for available files at this address
Thanks! I got that from playing with it right after i posted it. Tested on the local network here. Since I cant open ports at my schools network. Is there a way to have FM save all changes to a remote db stored say on GoDaddys server then open it from there and share it that way?

well, 1st you'd have to convince GoDaddys to host a filemaker server, and then open port 5003... no way
but there are specialized filemaker providers where you can get this service from, just look for filemaker database hosting, and you should have a bunch of them in yr country. but none is free...
Thanks for your help!
